Joey Alison Sayers aka “lady cartoonist, library worker, and a potato chip aficionado” as she calls her on Instagram with more than 15.4k followers.
She makes funny comics about really funny scenarios with random twists. Her comics are quirky and based on relatable situations.
Joey is an artist based in Oakland, CA. Her comics have also been featured in many newspapers and magazines. Like The Nib, Mad Magazine, several alternate weeklies, and the Best American Comics anthology. Recently, Joey was also named the new writer for the long-running comic strip Alley Oop.
She describes that she always was very interested in arts and started when she was just 7. Joey has two young kids and she works at a public library. She says most of her inspiration comes from daily life as she is able to find funny things around her easily.
Sayers explains that she has always been shy and anxious and drawing comics has been her way of expressing herself.
The artist explains that most of her work is personal but she has always been lucky with the support she gets for the comics.
Her art is the best combination of written jokes and illustrated comedy. She says she really enjoys the writing part of the comics because it’s like sculpting a huge block of marble.
Joey shared that she started drawing art long before the internet existed and she still loves to draw with pencil and paper. She still sketches her ideas in an analog format first.
The artist has tried many hobbies like painting, sculpture, and playing music but drawing comics has been one true love.
